How to Fix a Fujifilm FinePix F30

Josh Ryan
Sometimes, it helps to know a little bit about the Fuji FinePix F30 digital camera's most common problems, most often because, like most electronics, it never seems to stop working until the day after the warranty expires. Its most widespread problems are a shutter button that no longer works and the power button/selector on the top of the camera stops functioning. It turns out that both of these problems are directly related to the ribbon cable on the circuit board. Hopefully, by the time you finish reading this article, your Fuji FinePix F30's issues will be demystified and on their way to being repaired.

Before you do anything, of course, you should take out the batteries in the Fuji FinePix F30, which releases with a yellow lever. That way, you can avoid damaging your camera's functions while you're working on it.

On the side of your Fuji FinePix F30, there is a panel where the A/V plug and 5V charger connect to the camera. You need a very small Phillips head screwdriver to take the screws out of this panel and the bottom and front of the camera. Set the screws aside where they won't get lost.

There are some oddball screws on the opposite side of the Fuji FinePix F30. Take those out too with a small flathead screwdriver. It may be rather difficult but you can get them out if you're careful.

Now you're ready to open the case. Do it carefully, without being forceful. Look the circuit board over thoroughly for problems. Brown or black areas indicate the most serious problems, which aren't what we're addressing here.

All you need to do is find the ribbon cable close to the camera's dial at the topmost part of the circuit board and push it back in. It connects the Fuji FinePix F30's shutter to the controller and can wreak havoc with the dial as well. Also look at the other cables to make sure they're securely placed. Once you do that, you're done and you can put your Fuji FinePix F30 back together. Put the batteries in and take a few test shots.

Fixing the Fuji FinePix F30 is usually just a matter of repositioning the ribbon cables. These, when mis-positioned, are enough to keep your camera from working properly. Now that you know how to deal with this common Fuji FinePix F30 issue, not having a warranty will hopefully not be such a big problem.

Oh my God, this actually worked! Thank you for saving me a bunch of time, money and hassle! (Even if the screws were totally frustrating.)
