How to Fix an RV Toilet

There are a lot of great conveniences to hitting the road on an RV, but you will also find that you may need to learn how to repair RV toilet. This is the price that you pay for having a private RV toilet. Fortunately, this isn't a very difficult job to do.

In order to repair RV toilet you will need the following items:

  • A pair of rubber gloves
  • A repair kit
  • An adjustable wrench
  • A variety of screwdrivers
  • A rubber seal
  • A floor flange
  • Silicone grease
  • A bath towel
  1. Look at the water that is already in your RV toilet bowl. If there isn't any water at the bottom of the toilet, then some paper may be clogged in the blade. You can purchase a tool from your local hardware store to clear this out. Then remember to always hold the RV toilet handle down until the toilet bowl is empty.
  2. Replace the aging gaskets on your RV toilet. You will need to remove the RV toilet in order to replace all of the gaskets, including the floor gasket.
  3. To get extra toilet paper out of your RV toilet, fill the RV toilet bowl with excess water. This will repair RV toilet whenever toilet paper gets stuck high up in the RV toilet because the toilet paper will get wet and start floating so that you can flush it.
  4. To loosen the RV toilet flush mechanism, spray with a silicone lubricant. You need to spray the blade and the gasket too.
  5. To repair a leak in your RV toilet, check the water connection. If this connection is loose, use a wrench to tighten it.
By doing this work on your RV toilet yourself, you will save a lot of money. This will also make you feel empowered to tackle any other projects that may come up.
