The best cure for squeaky bedsprings is to fix them. Surprisingly, it is a lot easier than it sounds and with a little bit of work you should be able to have your bed squeak-free in no time. Here are some tips on how to fix squeaky bed springs so you can get a good night's rest.
Take Your Bed Apart
If your mattress is lopsided, your headboard or foot board is out of whack or a connection holding your bed together is loose it can put uneven pressure on the bed springs and can cause the springs to squeak. The first thing you should try is removing your headboard and foot board and taking off your mattress.
Then, sit or lay on the bed springs and see if the squeak is still there. If there is no squeak in the box srping with the rest of the bed removed then it is being caused by the uneven pressure from your mattress, headboard or foot board. Try putting the bed back together again making sure all the connections are fitted perfectly and that your headboard and foot board are completely straight.
If the squeak is still there after taking apart your bed, move on to the next solution.
Tighten Any Connectors
The next step to try is tightening any screws or connectors holding the box spring together. If the frame is loose it can cause uneven pressure on the springs which can lead to squeaking. Search around on the bed spring and find any connectors that are holding the springs in place. Use the correct tool to make sure that they are tight.
Flip the bed springs back over and try sitting or laying on it again. Still got a squeak? Try the next step.
Lubricate the Springs
Sometimes the springs just need to be lubricated. Try spraying them with WD-40 or cooking oil. If you can isolate the spring that is making the squeak you can just spray that spring. Otherwise, spray them all. In most cases this will eliminate the squeak immediately. Eventually the lubrication will wear off and you will need to reapply it.
Replace the Bed Springs
If none of the above suggestions work it may be time to replace your box spring or mattress.
As a final note, most bed springs come with muslin or another thin fabric covering the bottom. To work on the springs you will either need to cut or remove the fabric. This won't harm the performance of your bed springs, so feel free to take it off so you can gain access.
Hopefully these tips will help you to finally get a good night's sleep.
