How to Make a Fleece Quilt

Victoria Willame
Making a tied fleece quilt is very easy project. Fleece is a very soft and warm material. That is why fleece quilts make excellent throws for your couch or bed. You can make them for yourself or your friends and family, and give them as gifts.

To make a fleece quilt, you will need to purchase two pieces of fleece that are either matching in color, or contrasting in color. Fleece usually comes in 60-inch wide pieces. You can decide on how long you would like to make it. 60 inches x 60 inches is a good throw size. 60 inches x 72 inches makes a nice single bed quilt size.

The only supplies you will need:
A pair of scissors
A ruler to measure a 4 inch square

To begin, you will lay your fleece out on a wide table, with the first piece face down. Make sure that your fleece is as flat as possible. Place the second piece face up on top of the first piece. If one piece seems a little larger than the other one does, you may trim it to match the other layer. After you have laid your fleece out, you will need to cut one 4 inch x 4 inch square out of each of the four corners through both layers. Your next step will be to cut 4 inch long strips about 1 inch apart along all four sides of the quilt from open corner to open corner through both layers also.

After the quilt has been cut, you will start to tie the 4 inch strips together. You will separate the top strip from the bottom and tie the two together. Make a double knot to prevent it from unraveling. Tie each set of strips around the entire quilt. When you have finished you will see a mixture of colors from the top piece and the bottom piece in each strip. Two sides of the quilt will be a little stretchier than the other two. This is normal and will not ruin the look of the quilt.

As a volunteer, in our local quilt club, we make many fleece quilts to donate to nursing homes, hospitals and people with cancer and other serious illnesses. We also make fleece chemo hats and fleece mittens for them. We also make fleece hats and mittens, teddy bears and other items for the children from needy families. We also donate our items to other organizations as well.

Warm your feet and your heart.

At last, a craft idea where I don't have to thread a needle! We all know, I'm not going to do that :) I may actually give this one a try!
