How to Make Floral Waters

Cheryl Dennett
Floral waters are a lovely way to make yourself smell pretty. They are lighter than colognes and can be used as splashes or toilets for a refreshing pick-me-up. You can even add them to your bath water. Here are some instructions to help you make your own floral waters to use or give as gifts.

Floral waters are a mixture of water, alcohol, fragrant flowers or herbs, and sometimes essential oil. First you will need to measure out the distilled water and pour into a mixing bottle. Make sure the bottle has been thoroughly cleaned. Then add the alcohol. Do not use rubbing alcohol. It has a scent of its own and could change the scent of the other ingredients. Vodka is a suitable type to use, as it has no scent.

Next mix the flowers or herbs so that they are thoroughly wet. You will then add the essential oil to the mixture. Let this stand in a cool, dark place for one week to allow the scent to age. You may choose to leave the flower petals or herbs in the mixture for a pretty visual effect. If they do not age well, just strain them out of the mixture.

An easy recipe to use requires three cupsof distilled water, one-quarter cup of vodka, and one ounce of dried flowers or herbs. Choose a flowers or herbs that have a fragrance you enjoy.

Another easy recipe is for lavender water. Use two cups of distilled water, one-quarter cup of vodka, and eight drops of lavender oil. You can substitute any oil that has a fragrance you prefer.

To make rose water you will need two cups of distilled water, one-quarter cup vodka, ten drops of rose oil, and half a cup of fresh, rose petals in your favorite color.

Another lovely recipe is for Florida water. You will need two cups of distilled water, one=quarter cip of vodka, six drops of bergamot oil, six drops of lavender oil, and two drops of clove oil. This is an old recipe and you may remember the scent from your grandmother's perfume bottles.

Store the floral water in any decorative decanter. Leave some of the flowers or herbs in for decoration. These recipes are easy to make and you will be able to enjoy them for a long while.

Floral water is easy to make and much cheaper than commercial perfumes. It will also make a lovely gift for family and friends. Hopefully, these recipes and instructions will help you make all the floral water you desire.
