Talk to Your Dentist
The first thing you should do is discuss with your dentist which floss would be right for you and your situation. There are many different kinds of floss you can buy on the market, and you want to make sure that you are using the right one. You can buy floss at your local grocery store or drug store. Choose the one that is best for you and your needs. Some floss is better than others for people with braces.
Right Fit
Make sure that you use floss that will fit easily. That means it should be able to fit under your arch wire with no problem. This is really important in flossing with your braces on. You will want sturdy floss. Flossing with braces is easier when you are using the right floss.
How to Floss
Always wash your hands before you floss. Take the floss and hold it firmly between your index finger and thumb. Gently put the floss under the arch wire of the two teeth that you want to clean. Lightly go back and forth without connecting with your brace wire. Just slide the floss back and forth, and then go up and down. Make sure the teeth get really clean. Keep repeating until all of your teeth have been flossed.
Patience
The biggest tip in how to floss with braces is to have patience whi. It may take a while to floss each night, at least in the beginning. Your biggest obstacle will be making sure that you do not get your floss hooked on your braces wire. So be patient with yourself and the flossing process. You want to make sure that your flossing oral care is a good one.
Why Floss
Why is it important to floss with braces? The truth is that most people with braces usually have to wear them for at least a year or more. This can lead to lots of damage to your teeth because they are not as easy to clean with braces on. For example, bacteria can get stuck around your brackets. When you floss this helps to keep your gums and teeth clean. It helps bacteria and plaque to not do damage to your teeth. It will help against getting things like cavities and gingivitis, and it will help you to maintain good oral hygiene when you learn how to floss properly with braces.
