How to Focus on Writing!

Kevin Choy
Writing requires a lot of brain power. It's very hard to get yourself to a point where you are writing very easily and fast. So how exactly do you achieve this? There are many ways to get yourself in a writing mood.

One: Surrounding

The environment surrounding you is very important in writing. The best place is a noiseless room with no distracting objects around. This will get you to focus on writing. Distractions will slow down your writing a lot.

Two: Distraction

Distractions will get you off task a lot! For example, when you are writing stuff on the internet, turn off all instant messengers and prevent yourself from browsing the web. Also, turn off your house phone and cell phone. They are a big source of distraction. Make sure everyone in your family or people living in the house is quiet too.

Three: Get yourself in the writing mood

If you are going to be writing something, you have to prepare before. Do a quiet, relaxing activity before writing instead of a physical sport. This will help you transition into writing very quickly.

Four: Music

Music is not too big of a problem in writing. Some people are different from others because some people will work better with music, while others don't. Music may help if you are writing for a long period of time. Visa versa, music can distract yourself from writing. A good choice of music is something calm such as classical or jazz.

Five: Take your time

Taking your time in writing is very important. When you first start writing, you will not be able to think as well. Brainstorm in your head for a bit until you think of a great idea. After 10-20 minutes, the words will start flowing from your brain. This is when you are in the writing mode. You are constantly producing good ideas from your head and is writing at a very good rate. The best ideas are also present during this stage.

In conclusion, focus on writing when you are writing. Anything else will slow your progress. For example, if your writing and you get a phone call and you get off the phone, you will have to get yourself back into writing mode by taking another 10 minutes to transition.
