How Can You Forget Your Child in Your HOT Car?

I hate to be judgmental. I never want to assume that a person does anything maliciously, unless it is painfully obvious. I just do NOT understand how a person, a parent, a mother, can forget her baby and go into her workplace, her home, the store. What about the people that swear they were only going to be away from the car for a few minutes.

Have you ever sat in a closed car, in the sun, with the windows up and no air conditioner running? I have, just for a few minutes. But I was able to get out of the car. I could unbuckle my seat belt, unlock the doors, and open them. Imagine not being able to do that. What kind of a death is that? It certainly doesn't sound too pleasant. It is something that I would never wish on anyone.

So why is it that mothers across the country are doing this to their children? They forget? How can you forget your baby, YOUR BABY, the creature that you brought into this world by your own choice?

You would think that this was a rare occasion. But according to about.com, 230 children have died in an unattended car since 1998. That is an average of 25 kids per year, 2 per month.

The most recent case in the news is about a woman that left her 22 month old toddler in her car while she worked all day. She remembered to get her donuts out of the car, but not to bring her baby to day care. This is a respected person in the community in which she lives. She is an assistant principal. But she forgot her baby. Those are such powerful and daunting words. I forgot my baby. HOW CAN YOU DO THAT? You forget your coffee, your newspaper, your lunch, but your baby?

Come on. Some people should never be allowed to have children.
