How to Make a Free Conference Call at Thanksgiving - or Any Day

Can't Travel? Enjoy a Free Family Reunion by Telephone

Michael Segers
Money is tight, and at least during the holidays, travel gets more and more unpleasant. This Thanksgiving, treat yourself and loved ones that you will not have a chance to see to a free conference call. Since it is a free conference call, you do not have to wait for a holiday.

You will soon find many uses for these free conference calls. I first discovered this service when I was participating in an online course with participants spread across seven or eight states. We had a class "meeting" once a week using this free conference call service. So, you could use these free conference call service (for up to 150 people at a time!) to conduct classes, or students could use a free conference call for a study session.

How to get free conference call service

The service is available through www.freegoconference.com, where you can "create a free audio conferencing room for up to 150 callers" at a time. This is a service of www.goconference.com, which is provided as a way to call attention to their (for pay) services, but if you use their free conference call serivce, you are under no obligation to use their for-pay services, but they hope you will, of course.

Go to www.freegoconference.com, and sign up for a free account. You will be given the telephone number for freegoconference and a numerical code. Once you get the phone number and the numerical code, just share them with all your participants, and set a time for the call. Just share the telephone number, the code, and the time for your free conference call.

How to make the free conference call

When your participants dial the number for freegoconference.com, they will be greeted by a digital voice announcing that this is a free conference call provided by freegoconference.com. That is the only advertising the participants in yoru free conference call will hear.

The voice will then announce that you are the first person on the call or that however many others already on the free conference call. They will hear a signal, a beep, whenever someone else joins the call. You conduct your free conference call. Your participants hang up whenever they wish.

How much does a "free" conference call cost

There is no charge for the free conference call service.

They provider of this free conference call service, however, does not provide a toll-free number for the calls to access the service, understandably. Each participant is responsible for the cost of dialing in to the free conference call. Standard long distance rates apply, according to your own long distance provider. You may find that some "calling cards" provide a cheaper rate.

Since many people now have unlimited long distance dialing on their land lines or cell phones, this may not be a problem for you to access your free conference calls thorugh freegoconference.com. I know of one person who had an arrangement with a neighbor to use the neighbor's phone for free conference calls, because the neighbor had unlimited long distance calling.

This free conference call service is available to callers in any country, but, again, all callers will be subject to the rates for long distance calls to the United States.
