How to Get Free Gifts as a Timeshare Guest

Kristen May
If you have managed to land yourself a free stay in a timeshare as a non-owner, whether by trading in via another timeshare you or somebody else owns, or by being given a week by somebody who owns at that timeshare, you have the wonderful opportunity to get free gifts during your timeshare stay.

The idea is to sit through a presentation to become a timeshare owner, for which most resorts will offer you a very attractive gift. These gifts can range anywhere from a free meal at one of the onsite restaurants to fun activities with a partner company. Regardless of what they are, they are likely to be well worth your time.

Step One: Plan to Not Buy Anything You Don't Want

If you want your gift to actually be free, you have to not be lured into buying anything while you are getting your free gift. So, before digging into this, consider whether you are strong enough to say no to attractive offers. Remember that these people make sales for a living, and they are really good at telling you all the benefits and none of the disadvantages of timeshare ownership.

Step Two: Set Up an Appointment to Learn More about the Timeshare

Talk with your resort host or the front desk about your interest in becoming a timeshare owner. They will be happy to set up an appointment with you to pitch their timeshare to you, because people staying at the resort are way easier to sell than those who have never been there.

If possible, try to set up your appointment for early in your stay at the timeshare. This is to ensure that you will have plenty of time to make use of your free gift. It is unfortunate to have an appointment on your last day there and to have to scramble to use your free gift, or to have to pick a less attractive gift because you don't have time to take part in your first choice.

Step Three: Go to Your Appointment and Be Interested

Of course, to actually get your gift, you will need to attend the presentation for the timeshare. These are actually kind of fun because they tell you all about the benefits of timeshare ownership, and nothing about the hidden costs (check out this article for more info on the hidden costs of timeshare ownership). Make sure you don't get tricked into buying it if you aren't actually prepared to pay for all these things.

Step Four: Enjoy Your Free Gift

Whether you end up with a free dinner at the resort restaurant, a free round of really expensive drinks at the bar, or a boating excursion, enjoy it. Ideally, it will be something that you would not have ordinarily justified splurging for, so it's the perfect gift!
