Penny Richards
You can use a free copy of iTunes to make free ringtones for your Apple iPhone cell phone! Unlike online "free" ringtone websites such as Mxyer.com, there is no need to upload or download anything!

Got a cell phone? Got an Apple iPhone? Show off your originality by using a custom ringtone anytime a family member or friend calls you. But don't pay for your ringtones! In this cell phone article, I'll show you how to create custom free iPhone ringtones!

Making free cell phone ringtones for the Apple iPhone doesn't require you to purchase any special software or hardware. You don't even had to download or upload anything, like some "free" cell phone ringtone websites force you to do. All you need is the latest version of iTunes, the newest version of the iPhone software, and your favorite song!

How to make free custom ringtones for your iPhone:

1. In iTunes, right-click (or ctrl+click) on your favorite song, and click "Get Info." Or, on a Mac computer, click on the song and hold down command+I.

2. In the Info window that appears, click on Options and navigate to the Start Time and Stop Time sections. Change these times into a 30-second window (the maximum length for a custom ringtone) and find the part in the song that you want to turn into a free ringtone.

3. Click "OK" when you have cut the song down to the 30 seconds that you want played when a friend calls you.

4. Right-click (or ctrl+click) on the song and click "Convert Selection to AAC."

5. The iTunes music software will convert your 30-second clip into an AAC file. When it is finished, move that file to your computer desktop. Right-click on the file, or ctrl+click it, and change the file extension (e.g. .doc, .mp3, .pdf) to .m4r.

6. Drag the newly renamed file back to your iTunes music library and add it to the Ringtones section of the iTunes music player. Now, when you connect your Apple iPhone to your computer, it will automatically add the custom ringtone to your cell phone.

7. Delete the duplicate song copy in iTunes, and go back to the original song's Get Info window to restore the entire length of the song. You're done!

You're now finished making your free ringtone in iTunes! Companies like Verizon charge upwards of $4 per ringtone, while the iTunes Ringtone Music Store charges $2. With this article, you can save money while still getting all the free custom cell ringtones that you want.
