How to Get Free Theme Park Tickets in Orlando, Florida

Ken Black
So you're planning a trip to Orlando, the theme park capital of the world! Congratulations. It takes a serious amount of planning, and not to mention a serious cash outlay, to play in the world's playground. But for those looking for the best value, there are some options out there.

The theme park spokespeople will quickly tell us that anyone spending all that money to go to Orlando is not going to be discouraged by the theme park ticket prices, which make up a relatively small portion of the overall trip cost. That is partially correct. Anyone who goes to Orlando is likely to take advantage of at least some of the theme parks during their stay (if they are there for vacation). But what they conveniently leave out is the fact that many may be discouraged from planning a trip at all, based, at least partially, because of theme park costs. Or, if they do go, they may choose to visit fewer parks.

Of course, discount tickets are great. They can save some serious cash. But the real value is free. That's right - free. A single day in a theme park is anywhere from a $65 to $75 value. So how do you score free tickets?

There are basically two tried and true methods for getting into the theme parks for free (outside of those which are illegal, which are not recommended). Friends and timeshares are the answer for those who are looking for the ultimate vacation value. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Yes, it is true that the word timeshare is dreaded by many vacationers. It is also true that timeshares are not for everyone. However, the beauty here is that you do not have to be interested in a timeshare at all for them to entice you with free theme park tickets. A simple Google or Yahoo search will provide you with plenty of opportunities. The downside is that you will be required to attend a presentation, usually lasting 90 minutes, perhaps a little longer. But for those willing to sit through such a presentation, the reward is often the tickets, with no other purchase necessary.

Usually, these timeshare properties also offer prospects heavily discounted hotel rates as well. But beware! Choose a reputable company. Check with the Better Business Bureau and other sources online to make sure they deliver on their promises.

Friends who live and work in the theme park industry are also a good bet. Most theme park jobs are notoriously low wage. But they usually come with some very good benefits, such as free admission for the employee and his or her friends, and also merchandise discounts.

Of course, there are some conditions. Employees are usually only allowed to get a few people in with them. Disney, for one, does require that the employee spend the day with the guest or guests and although there are ways around it, the company has been keeping a better watch on its employees who report for work but somehow also seem to check themselves and others through the turnstiles on the same day.
