How to Use Freebies to Stretch Your Family Budget

Mary Moss
You don't have to deprive yourself of the the magazines, movies, books and products you enjoy just because you have had to tighten your budget!

Read free magazines - Magazines on just about every interest and topic can be checked out at your local library. So cancel your magazine subscriptions. Eliminate unread issues from cluttering up your house, save a small fortune effortlessly. Another viable alternative is to read electronic copies of your favorite magazines on line. Go to the website online magazines or visit Magazines Directory to read just about any magazine you can think of on-line. Another option: arrive 15 minutes early for doctor appointments and read the magazines in the lobby!

Read free/cheap books - The public library in your locality houses thousands of books on every subject and any genre you can imagine. Even in small rural locations, a library can borrow books from other libraries. Also, look for ways to win free books. Takeila Bynum at Booksalatte.com offers free books giveaways. Rae at Gather.com offers free "gently used" books just for commenting on her post. http://books.gather.com/-Gather Books Essential

Both http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php and http://www.bookmooch.com/ are sites for book exchanges. Any book you request is yours to keep, share or swap. No late fees. No processing charges. No hidden charges. Every time you mail a book to another member, you can request one for yourself." Paperback Swap members can also trade Hardback book, audio books and textbooks.

Both bookmooch.com and paperbackswap.com are absolutely free to join and have no membership dues or fees. The only expense to you is the cost of mailing your books. If you send them media mail through the USPS, the cost will be minimal (certainly cheaper than one new book)!

Watch free movies - VeohTV software can be downloaded to your computer. Once it's installed, you can watch full length movies through watch-movies.net any time you want to see them! Registration is required. Disclaimer offered by Watch-movies.net: Watch-Movies.net is absolutely legal and contains only links to other sites on the Internet. Send Free Greeting Cards to friends and family by registering with at any (or all!) of these websites: http://www.americangreetings.com/, http://www.egreetings.com/, and http://www.hallmark.com/. Of course you will have opportunity to "upgrade" for a monthly or annual fee in order to have access to even more free electronic greetings. These sites offer to keep track of your memorable events and send you reminders several days in advance of the occasion.

Receive free products - Register, fill out a fairly detailed form about your interests, demographics, lifestyle and spending habits and begin receiving offers to review products on a regular basis at http://www.bzzagent.com. They offer completely free products and services for you to review. You select the items or products you're interested in reviewing. Write a brief, honest review and the offers will keep coming.

Great tips. My mother gets a lot of free products from sites like bzzagent. I can't remember the last time we paid for cat food.

Thanks, I'm trying to trim my budget any way I can, and these ideas are all good. I'm going to try the book swap site.

Hi...some good hints there. I do have a few comments/suggestions. The library is also good for reading magazines and borrowing videos to watch at home. If you haven't tried hulu.com, check it out. You can watch literally hundreds of TV shows both old and new with very limited commercial interruptions (usually less than 30 seconds). I believe they also have some full length movies as well. I'm a member of bzzagent and they really don't have that many campaigns and I've noticed that the ones I'm getting invited to now require a payment. When checking online I've found that the "small amount" that they're asking for is not much less than you can actually get the products for at some online merchants.
