Here is how you can freeze bananas for baby food, smoothies and banana bread.
Peel the bananas. First you'll want to peel the bananas. If you don't peel the bananas first, you'll have to wait for the frozen bananas to thaw before peeling them. If you have the time, you can freeze the unpeeled bananas. You can freeze as many pieces of the fruit as you'd like.
Place the bananas in a bag. After you've peeled the bananas, place them in a bag. Place the bananas in a plastic zipper freezer bag. You don't have to break up the bananas into chunks if you don't want. Save that process for after the fruit is frozen. When the bananas thaw, they'll be soft enough to break into chunks.
Another way you can freeze bananas for baby food and smoothies: mash up the bananas before freezing them. Place the mashed fruit in ice cube trays. If you'd like, add one tablespoon of lemon juice to each so that the frozen banana won't darken. The ice tray keeps the frozen banana chucks separated making it easy to make thick milk shakes and smoothies.
Use your frozen bananas. Make sure that you use the frozen bananas within three months. If you don't use this frozen fruit in a timely manner, the bananas could turn brown in the freezer. Place a date on the zipper freezer bag so you remember how long they have been in the freezer.
Have fun making your dishes! When you take the frozen bananas out of the freezer, break them up in chunks. You can put the banana chucks in a blender. Add whatever addition ingredients you'd like to the blender depending on if you're making baby food or smoothies. If you're making banana bread, put them thaw in a bowl and mash them up for the bread. There are many tasty recipes available online that you can use.
When the bananas thaw, they'll be mushy in consistency. That will make the bananas easy to use for baby food, smoothies and banana bread. If you freeze enough, you may have enough to share with your friends and family interested in trying these to make special treats.
