How to Make Frozen Strawberry Banana Yogurt Ice Cream

Homemade Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream Made in a Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream Maker

Karen Barnes
Three years ago, I used my Capital One rewards points to buy a Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker. I bought this ice cream making machine because the regular electric ice cream maker was too noisy and took too long to make home made ice cream.

I decided I needed something different to make one of our favorite summer treats with. I had been window shopping for a similar electric ice cream maker like the Cuisinart I was able to get with my points from my credit card. I was almost set to buy one outright when I found this one on the list of items from the credit card company.

Once I had gotten it through the mail, I began making the different types of frozen yogurt treats, ice creams, and a couple of sorbets with it. Some of the recipes we did not care for. Some of the recipes I tweaked to our liking.

I had tried the soft serve frozen yogurt ice cream at our local Braum's Ice Cream place. I found I liked it very much. Once I had found they were carrying a variety of different frozen yogurts in their freezer cases, I tried several of those too. This is how I became hooked on frozen yogurt ice cream.

See, I do not much care for yogurt by itself. So I never ate it that way while my husband and daughter like it. They often mix fruit or granola with theirs for an extra flair. That's still not for me.

Now that I found a way to eat this type of food that is good for me, I make several 2 pint containers of a frozen yogurt ice cream over the summer. Many times, I find myself making a batch at least twice a week because that is how fast we eat it. Sometimes I will have to make three in a week. Sure you may think that gets expensive, but compared to regular brand name ice cream; not so much.

Below is one recipe I tweaked myself for making frozen yogurt ice cream.

Frozen Strawberry Banana Yogurt Ice Cream

1 1/4 cups 2% milk
3/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups strawberry banana flavored yogurt
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Mix the sugar and milk in a bowl until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the rest of the ingredients.

Place the freezer bowl, after it has been frozen in the freezer, in the Cuisinart Maker. Turn on the maker after the top has been put in place. Pour the yogurt mixture slowly into the base.

Mix in the machine for 20 to 25 minutes. Once finished, the strawberry yogurt ice cream will be soft serve. If you prefer a harder ice cream, put the soft serve in an air tight container and freeze until desired hardness has occurred. This could take up to 2 hours.

If the yogurt ice cream is to hard to remove from the secondary container, let set at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

TIP: Other flavors of yogurt can be substituted.

TIP: Plain yogurt and strawberry preserves or jam can be used.
