How to Have a Fun Filled Day of Learning with Your Preschooler

Teach Your Child as They Grow

Rosa Hayes
Your little preschool child loves to do things and everything that they do has some type of learning skill with it. When your child is playing you may notice that they start to pretend play and even talk to themselves while playing, this is all part of their learning. If you want to have a fun filled day of learning with your preschool age child you are going to want to read this for excellent tips on making your day a fun one and a learning experience for you and your child.

Monkey see monkey do

You have probably noticed by now that when your child gets upset they mimic some of your actions. I once saw my daughter tell my husband with hands on hips that he was in big trouble after knocking the bowl off the table. Since your child has used you as a learning tool and has probably embarrassed you or made you laugh by some of the things that he or she has done that resembles a lot of the things that you do, it is now time to step it up a notch and really teach your preschooler something worth bragging about. Show your child how something is done such as putting blocks together and watch them as they copy and do the same thing. Show them something else such as the letters in their name and make a song out of them and watch as they try to follow along. Everything that you do can be made into something that they can learn from.

Just one week at a time

One week at a time is all it usually takes for a child to pick something up and remember it. I use each week as a learning tool for my preschool aged child by using a theme such as dogs one week and maybe a shape the next. Each week you should use something that interests your child and yourself so that they can learn. When I did the shape theme of a circle I would point out circles wherever I went and say the name and have them to say the name after me. By the end of the week and usually by the middle my daughter was able to say circle without any help and point to objects that were circles. Even reading can be taught to a child this way.

In the kitchen

I don't know of a child that doesn't love to be in the kitchen eating or helping a parent to plan a meal. Use the kitchen to your advantage by using fun filled activities that a preschooler can do such as using cookie cutters in certain shapes or animals and allow them to help make cookies or your can help them learn their colors by using food color in your food. I love being in the kitchen with little hands and most of the time they don't mind helping to clean up the mess once the fun is over with and this can help to teach them responsibilities.

From the moment that your child is born you should use every opportunity to teach them something. Even a child who is verily even moving they can learn through voice recognition and starting early is a great way to boost their confidence when they get in school. Some people are against teaching a child all the time but why not use fun things as a learning tool. A child can never learn too much and it isn't just the job of teachers to teach them. As parents we are teachers and therefore it is our responsibility to teach them as they grow.

It really isn't that they are a lot smarter, it is that they are taught differently than what they use to. With all the research and trial and error runs teachers, principals, and parents are able to find the best ways to teach a child and make it stick for life or at least help them to advance to the next level. Thanks for your input and I am glad that so many are enjoying my articles.

Kids are alot smarter than they used to be. Children do learn quickly and they retain most of what is learned. Wonderful article.
