First off, slugs do not actually drink the beer at all. They actually are attracted to the yeast in the beer which they quickly venture towards. What they do not know though is that once they crawl into the bowl of beer that you have placed in your garden, they cannot get out without a fight. After crawling into the bowl the alcohol their body get destroyed and they will no longer be a threat to your garden. Now, you just have to know how to get rid of them.
In order to prevent any extra expenses to yourself, pour some stale beer in a small dish that a slug could easily crawl into. This allows the slug to sense that there is yeast present in the garden and will quickly be attracted to the scent and will crawl into the dish quickly.
After placing the dish in a part of the garden where slugs are a problem, make sure that any slug that might get into the beer cannot get out. Once they are in the beer they will try and get out of the dish as quickly as possible, but with a dish that is a good amount off of the ground, they will not be able to escape.
The only thing to do after that last step is to wait. Try waiting a good 10-12 hours before checking on all of the slugs that you have killed with the beer in your garden. This will allow time for a good amount of slugs to crawl into your deceiving trap. Because of this trap, you have probably killed a lot of the slugs in your garden, but not all of them.
Try placing multiple dishes in your garden to see where the slugs are most likely to be. After this you should put more dishes in the most populated spots of slugs and, in no time, your slug problem will be gone.
If the dishes of beer does not work to kill the slugs in your garden, then it might be time to look into a different solution. There are many other ways to kill slugs in a garden. Try using ground up egg shells. This will sever the skin of the slug and will kill it on the spot. After using these two options, the slugs in your garden will definitely not be a problem in your garden again.
