How to Give Up Diet Soda

How I Realized My Weight Gain was from Drinking Diet Soda

Amanda
Do you need to have your caffeine fix everyday? Are you like me with a constant bottle of diet soda by my side. It's diet so I always assume I am making the right choice. I mean I am one of those people who order the Big Mac, large fries, and diet soda, go ahead laugh. It becomes an addiction needing the caffeine fix but feeling good about my choice since it is a diet. The word diet is right on the bottle/can. So when I have five or six a day I am thinking there is nothing bad about it. But then I discovered that my waistline was going up not down. With a little research I found out my "diet" soda was my downfall.

There was a study of 1,550 people at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. They discovered the more diet soda people drank, the higher the risk of excess pounds. Among healthy-weight subjects who drank one to two diet sodas daily, nearly 55 percent became overweight within eight years, versus 33 percent who drank this number of regular sodas, and less then 25 percent who drank neither. It may be that as people gained weight, they drank more diet soda. Still, research on rats suggests that artificial sweeteners can boost appetite. Artificial sweeteners are what makes up most of what is in diet sodas. Also they discovered in the study that people eat more since they see they are drinking in little calories. Maybe that's why I order that large fries without a thought.

So if I want to get rid of my diet soda obsession I will have to put it down. Change my diet all around and realize I cant eat those added calories. Old fashion diet and exercise will be the best to get me back in shape. But it will be hard to get rid of the addiction to my favorite drink But I have also heard that if you go two weeks without a certain item the cravings go away. Also your taste changes and it wont have the same flavor it once did. So two weeks of picking up a bottle of water instead of a bottle of soda is the new way to go.

So in conclusion, I have learned a lot from gaining some weight and doing a little research. I realized if it says diet it does not mean that I should use it excessive amounts. Also the diet factor does not allow for me to slack in other areas, like getting the large fries. Eating a balanced meal and keeping to water is the best way to keep me healthy and allow for my weight to be come back down to a normal area.
