How to Give Each of Your Homeschooled Children Their Own Work Space

Mrs. Renee

When homeschooling multiple children in a small space it can be very difficult to keep things organized, especially if they each don't have their own space to work with. Getting individual desks would certainly not help if there is no space for them. So what can a homeschooling family do? You can create individual desks for each of your students in a simple and organized way.

A wall mounted Desk

The first idea is to create a desk that can be easily mounted on the wall. These types of desks can easily be pulled down. This will provide your child with storage space as well as a decent size work space. Ehow has some easy step by step directions on how to build your own wall mounted desk. It may take a bit of work, but in the end you will have a nice space for each of your children without losing space in your home.

Put the closet to good use

You can also put your child's closet to good use. Placing a desk in the closet is a great way to get multiple uses out of one space. You can easily create a workspace in the center of your child's closet and still have room for their clothes. Babble.com has an inspirational picture on their site that will give you some great ideas.

Rolling Desk

Who says you can't have a desk on wheels. If you have a space to store your desks, you can put them on wheels and bring them out when it is time for your child to complete their work. If you have garage space it may be a good idea to roll the desk in a space in your garage when they are not in use. This will make it a lot easier to manage.

Utilize wall space

Another option is to utilize as much wall space as possible. You can install shelves all the way around the wall of a room. This will give you plenty of desk space. You can use file organizers on top of the desk to sort papers, and make every thing neat and organized. You can find budget friendly chairs at your local Ikea store for each of your children.

Divide your living space

You can very easily divide your living space up so that you have room for a work station for each of your children. This way they will each have their own room to work. It may give you less living space to work with, but it will be worth it in the long run.
