How to Give an Effective Oracle Card Reading

Tameko Barnette
With the amount of oracle card decks that are available within the last decade, people are turning inward for the answers they seek to their challenging questions. Quite often, people are using tarot cards or the more positive outlook of oracle cards to help them along the way. While many oracle card decks out there come with their own instructions, it is important to find your own groove when it comes to giving oracle card readings.

Here I'd like to offer for a few tips I've learned over the past five years I've done oracle card readings for myself and others that I've found to be most helpful. Keep in mind, these are my suggestions and are meant to be taken as such. None of these ideas are mandatory for you to experience an effective oracle card reading. Please feel free to use these ideas and tweak them as you wish for your own personal experience with oracle card readings.

Tip #1: Breathe. Before you get started with shuffling your deck to do a reading for yourself or anyone else, try doing some breathing exercises. For instance, do several rounds of deep, cleansing breaths. Make sure you can hear yourself breathing. Breathe in deep through your nose and blow out through your mouth making a 'ha' sound. Try this several times in a row - go slowly on the inhale and on the exhale. This helps to clear the mind in preparation for being open to your intuition and divine guidance.

Tip #2: Freewrite. Before you get started with your reading, do a five-minute or a ten-minute journal writing called a 'freewrite'. This is an excellent way to clear your mind as well. It allows you the opportunity to let go of anything that is on your mind that could hinder the accuracy of your reading or distract you from important details of divine guidance to enhance the reading. All you have to do is a set a timer for five or ten minutes, then write without worrying about punctuation, grammar, or spelling. Write whatever comes to mind. Write about your day - no matter what happened. Get it all out, so that way you won't have any lingering thoughts - positive or negative that will get in the way of the effectiveness of your reading.

Tip #3: Trust. This is the most important tip out of all three - you must trust yourself and the intuitive messages you received from within while looking over your cards or even if you get messages before you lay out the cards. Some times you will hear a voice that sounds a lot like your voice telling you certain things about the situation - jot those things down if you feel you may forget later on in the reading. You may see words or phrases pop up in your mind, jot those down as well or make sure you share them with the person you're reading for right away, so you won't forget later. If you're doing the reading for yourself - then before to write the impressions down in your journal. Trust. Trust. Trust. I can't say it enough. Trust yourself. Your inner voice won't steer you wrong. Even if the answers aren't something you want to hear - please trust them. It will only serve the highest good for all concerned if you do.
