Any good foot massage starts with a nice, warm foot soak. To do this, you will need a container that will comfortably hold a decent amount of water and two feet. One of the best things I've found for this purpose are the plastic dish pans you can buy at Walmart or Target. These plastic dish tubs will allow your loved one to soak both of their feet comfortably at the same time. Fill up your foot tub with water that is almost (but not quite) too hot too touch. The water will cool quickly, and if you start with water that isn't hot enough it won't be a pleasant experience. Allow your loved one to soak their feet in the hot water for 10-15 minutes before you give them their foot massage.
I like to use a nice salt scrub when I am giving a foot rub. Have your loved one take one of their feet out of the water, pat it dry with a towel, and then slowly massage a salt scrub all over their feet, varying the pressure and strokes you use. Concentrate on any rough or callused areas, and don't forget to rub between the toes (it feels great!). After a few minutes, allow your loved one to rinse the salt scrub off of their feet in the foot tub and repeat the process with the other foot. Once you have rinsed off all of the salt scrub, have your loved one take both of their feet out of the water and again, pat them dry.
Now, you can use a nice thick lotion or massage oil to complete the foot rub. Have fun with it, and pay attention for clues from your partner about what feels good and what doesn't. Take your time massaging the heels and the toes, as these areas feel especially good when they are massaged. Try using your fingers as well as your closed fist while performing the foot massage. The sensation from each can be very different. By following these simple steps, you are ready to give your loved one a wonderful foot massage that they are not likely to soon forget.
