How to Give Your Kid's a Full Day's Education Despite Having Half a Day Kindergarten

Mrs. Renee

Many school districts have to make the difficult choice of cutting back, due to budget issues. These cutbacks have forced some districts to get rid of full day kindergarten. The end result is a lot of parents who are scrambling to find something for their kids to do during the second half of the day. Most parent's really want to ensure that there children get a full day's education so that they are prepared for the rigorous first grade schedule. So how can you make sure that your child get a full day's education? Below are five ways that you can accomplish this.

Pick up where the teacher left off

You can start by picking up whether the teacher left off. In reality half day kindergarten will probably end up having just a few hours of actual learning time. Sit down and talk with their teacher to see what information they will be covering during the half a day schedule. This will help you to see what you can do once your child is back home. For example maybe there is some curriculum that you can purchase that will give them the extra practice they need.

Find a day care that has a good curriculum

If your child will be attending kindergarten during the morning hours, you can find a day care that can continue to help them learn during the afternoon. Many parents work and will have to make day care arrangements for their children. Do your research before just leaving your child anywhere? See what type of program they have, and see what they will be doing for the afternoon.

All day daycare may be better

If the public school system only has half a day kindergarten it may be a good idea to put your child in an all day, daycare environment. Many daycares offer full day kindergarten, although you will have to pay a fee. You really have to take time, and check your budget to see what you can afford. In some cases if you have more than one child you may be able to work out some sort of discounted deal.

Games can help to educate

There are plenty of games that you can play with your kindergarten to help with the learning process. Why not do a little bit of research to see what game will help them to learn. There is really an abundance to choose from at that age level. If you don't want to purchase anything, then you can look online for easy make it yourself games.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Just simply reviewing what your child has already learned is really a great way to continue the learning process. Simply practice what the teacher has already taught them if they go to half day kindergarten. This will only help to reinforce the learning process. Most teachers would be happy to give you ideas on what you can do at home with your children, to help them master the necessary skills.
