So off I go to the vet, holding the kitten high in the air, both Samantha and Missy our two dogs want to get any part of her that they can lay their eager little teeth into. The two birds don't want any part of her either, they are squaking up a storm. Exit Mom to the vet kitten in hands. Son, he has disappeared he had some things to do. The vet told me that she was suffering from malnutrician and had a slight infection that needed some medication. Bought the medication, paid the vet bill spent $75.00 still no son to be found. The vet told me that the medication had to be given every six hours until finished. The pills were small, I mean really small. smaller than a baby asprin. This should not be hard. I give pills to my dogs all the time and I don;t have a problem this should be a cinch. Yeah Right.
Brought the kitten back into the house, put the two dogs out on the patio, my husband is home by now and he is six foot three, big guy, I knew he would be able to assist if I needed help. Took the kitten, took a pill out of the bottle, held the kitten like a baby tried to open its mouth when all hell broke loose. Kitten started to scratch and shriek, flew out of my hands, jumped on the kitchen table, knocked over the sugar bowl, broke the vase with the roses in it and I believe actually flew to the dining room hutch. Okay now is the time for reinforcements. Called my husband, he comes down and tries to retireve the kitten from the top of the hutch, claws are bared, scrathes on his arm, looks like those welts are going to bleed later. Not a good sign. Two dogs still outside going wild, they want in and want that kitten.
Ray finally retrieves the kitten, holds it on its back and tries to open its mouth, They must have jaws of steel, lost another pill, it is rolling around somewhere on the floor, kitten escapes and runs into the den, we find her atop of the bird cage, the cockatiels are acting like they are going to have a heart attack. Dogs are still barking outside the door. Retrieve a third pill, understand that this pill is extremely small, we decide that we are going to work as a team, Ray is going to hold the kitten, we are going to wrap it in a blanket so that it doesn;t claw us to death, and Ray elects for me to try to pry this things mouth open. Okay I am willing to give it a try, kitten must think we are trying to kill it, its jaws just will not open. Finally Ray tells me to hold on to the wrapped up kitten, that has taken on the looks of a mummy, Ray presses his fingers against the kitten's jaws and plops the pill in. Does the kitten swallow, not in this life time! I then had this flash of an idea, I would dissolve the pill into a bowl of milk and try to get the medication in to the kitten like that. It took us over an hour to get this one tiny pill into this kitten.
Now this has to be accomplished every six hours. I told my son when he finally made an appearance that he had to find a home for this kitten and fast.
He gave it to his girlfriend's cousin and she just loves the little thing.
Now give me Samantha or Missy, whenever I have to give them medication all I have to do is wrap the pill inside of a piece of cheese call them by name and the pill has magically disappeared. I am a canine person!!!!
