How to Give Your Makeup a Holiday Twist

The holiday season has a style all of it's own. Lights twinkle. The snow glimmers. The bulbs on the Christmas tree shine. The various decorations scattered about glitter. Adjust your makeup to meet the style of the holiday season! Add some sparkle.

Generally speaking a woman's makeup kit holds the lotion, foundation, powder, eyeliner, mascara, and shadow. It also contains items such as blush and lip color, even nail polish. Many of these items come in a wide range of varieties. Some are matte, and have a shine free, duller appearance. Some are glossy and shine. Others can be found as sparkling as diamonds or fresh snow.

Foundation and powder are just not meant to sparkle. Neither are eye liner or mascara. However, when it comes to lotions, eye shadows, lip colors, and nail polishes you have many sparkling opportunities. If you want to add some sparkle to your makeup look these are the items to do it with.

Let's start with the lotion. Several body lotions are available that have a light glitter added to them. These aren't for use on the face, but rather on the neck and chest area, the arms and the backs of the hands. You could use a sparkling lotion on your legs as well if you don't plan on wearing nylons. Sparkling lotions come scented. They moisturize like a regular lotion. They leave the skin smelling great, and moisturized with an added glittery sheen.

Next onto the eye shadow. Eye shadow is a type of makeup that can change from day to day, outfit to outfit. If you're wearing blue you can wear a shade of blue eye shadow. It's available in every color you can think of. Eye shadow comes in different finishes too. There's matte, there's satin, or there's sparkly. My favorite holiday eye shadow is my silver one. It shines and sparkles like silver does. Sparkling eye shadow is available in all colors. Once you decide what you'll be wearing you can choose a color that matches and sparkle away!

Lip color is a type of makeup that also comes in finishes such as matte, satin, or sparkly. Lip color is available as gloss, or lip stick. Both are available in many shades ranging from nearly nude to bright red. Which ever shade you choose should suit your personal tastes. Choose the shade you like and opt for the sparkling version. A little sparkle on the lips goes a long way in adding holiday style. My favorite? A soft shade of pink.

The last make up item that can add sparkle to your look is nail polish. Once again, this is an item that is available in many shades, and finishes. Once your holiday outfit has been chosen you can choose your shade of nail color. Find that shade in a sparkling finish and you are all set! Nail polish comes clear with sparkles too. You can use this as a topcoat if you can not find your shade with sparkles. Nail color should always closely match lip color. Both get chosen based on the colors of your outfit. You'll want them to be very close to the same shade so that they do not clash.

Those are the sparkling makeup options. However, I don't recommend wearing them all at the same time. There is such a thing as too much holiday sparkle when it comes to makeup. Women don't want to look overdone. If you are wearing a sparkling lip color, match it with the sparkling nail polish and then leave the eye shadow matte. If you would like to wear a sparkling shadow then compliment it with a glittery lotion but keep the lip and nail color matte or satin. If your outfit is full of sparkle you'll want to go light on the makeup sparkles. If your outfit is not shiny, or sparkly then you can make up for the lack of sparkle by adding some with your makeup.
