How to Give Your Prayer Meaning

A Few Ideas when Praying

Mrs. Renee
There are some people who pray on a daily basis, and there are others who only pray when something bad happens. But does your prayer have any meaning to it? What many people fail to realize is that our mental attitude is very important when we pray. Prayer is very important, and should be directed to God himself. In order for a prayer to be acceptable to God they must be offered in faith. So in order to pray to God you have to first believe that he exist. A prayer is especially meaningful when a person is faced with serious decisions or they have made some horrible mistake in their life and need to ask God for forgiveness. It is also important that you have a good relationship with God in order for you to have a meaningful relationship with him. For example when you pray do you use God's name? Do you pray through his son Jesus Christ? Do you know God's name? Whenever you pray it should be as if you were talking to a very close and dear friend.

Praying is not something you should do only when a sad event occurs, but it should be done daily. In order for our prayer's to mean anything to God, it first has to mean something to us. A prayer should not be mechanical or repetitious, but should come from your heart. These things are of course due to human imperfection. But these problems can be overcome. This can be done by really appreciating the importance of our prayers. In Jesus model prayer, we see a good example of how we should pray. This model prayer is found at Mathew 6:9-13. Also at Ephesians 6:18-20 the apostle Paul gave us another fine example of how to pray when he asked for others to pray for him, so that he may have the ability to speak with boldness. But in order for our prayers to be specific it means that we need to give plenty of thought to our prayers. If there is some type of weakness that we are currently faced with, then we should deal specifically with this in our prayers. Concentration is the key to a meaningful prayer. . If you take a look at Psalm 25:4,5 and 119:145, you will see a prayer to God from David. This prayer is said with such feeling, and it is a good example of how we should feel when we pray.

What about your posture of position when you pray? Does this have any affect on how meaningful your prayer is? It is usually a good idea to change your physical position. When you are praying in public, you would normally just bow your head. But for a more personal prayer some feel that they should kneel before Jehovah. At Psalm 95:6 Solomon knelt when offering his prayer. This of course does not mean that if you do not kneel your prayer has no meaning. Just remember that being able to offer prayers to our God Jehovah is a privilege. When a pray is said out loud and with meaning it can really touch the heart's of those that are listing.
