But these days many people don't have the time for a full treatment. This is fine, though, because some Reiki is better than none at all. If your recipient doesn't have the time for a full treatment, you can do a shorter treatment with the person seated in a chair, with clothes, socks and shoes on. Keep your hands in each position until the energy tapers off, or for as long as your time allows. The hand positions for this treatment are described below.
1. Shoulders. Place one hand on each shoulder. This relaxes the person and reduces tension and stress.
2. Top of head. Place your hands next to each other on the top of the recipient's head. This treats the crown Chakra, which opens the person to Reiki and strengthens their spiritual connections.
3. Third eye. Put one hand on the person's forehead and the other at the base of the skull, where the skull and neck join. This treats the third eye and also helps with centering, and releasing mental blockages.
4. Throat. Place one hand at the base of the person's throat, in front. (You may want to do this an inch or two away from the body for comfort.) Put the other hand on the person's back at the same level. This treats the fifth Chakra at the throat, releasing anxiety and aiding in communication problems, etc.
5. Heart. Put one hand on or near the heart and the other on the back at the same level. This position treats heart, lung, and respiratory issues, enhances love for oneself and others, and keeps the fourth Chakra balanced and functioning properly.
6. Solar plexus. Put one hand on the solar plexus, just below the rib cage. Place the other on the back, slightly lower. This treats the third Chakra, healing personal and relationship issues, digestive problems, etc.
7. Sacral and root Chakras. Put one hand below the navel and the other on the back, as close to the base of the spine (or tail bone) as possible. This treats sexual symptoms at the second Chakra, and helps with grounding at the root Chakra.
You can also treat the legs and feet if you have time. Otherwise, this is the end of the quick treatment. Be sure the person is grounded before standing. Offer a glass of water, and make sure they don't stand up too quickly.
You can use these positions on yourself for a quick treatment as well. Just modify them so you can reach the back positions. Alternatively, you can just use the front positions and intend to treat the back. The key to Reiki is your intent!
