Planning For Your "Man Time" Day
You might have to plan ahead for your day and make 2 or 3 stops (listed below) on the way home from work. It will be worth the effort and you can stock up for future use. The weather will also play a roll as you will see later, so listen to your friendly weatherman (or woman) in the morning.
"Man Time" Stop Number 1
... the liquor store. If you don't already have some, you will need to pick up a bottle of good single malt Scotch. This bottle will tide you over for a number of your male moments so don't go cheap. You won't like it. There are great selections of single malt Scotch out there for less than $60. My personal favorite for daily (well, weekly maybe) use is Macallan Single Malt Scotch Cask Strength. While you are at it, pick up a bottle of spring water.
"Man Time" Stop Number 2
... the cigar store. Again, if you don't already have some you will need to pick yourself up a few imported hand-rolled Honduran cigars. I suggested Honduran cigars because in general they tend to be less spicy and more mild than those from Nicaragua, but more rich and rounded than those from Dominican Republic. My personal favorite for frequent use are Hoyo de Monterrey cigars as they have a rich feel in my mouth, much like chocolate. If you are new to cigars, have your proprietor instruct you on the proper way of preparing your cigar for smoking and lighting it properly. And yes, it does make a difference in the experience.
"Man Time" stop number 3
If you don't already possess a CD of your favorite music, stop and pick one up. Music is a key to the soul and without it, your day will seem flat, like it's missing something. For my "Man Day", my music of choice is Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain. Sometimes my days make me think I am as crazy as he is. If you feel the need to be a bit more mellow, think about Robert Miles - Dreamland but be warned, you might lose that macho edginess.
Putting It All Together
OK, now it show time. Pick a time and place you can call your own. Might I suggest right after a great dinner out on your fabulous back yard deck. Anywhere inside would not be such a great idea if you don't want to run everyone else off or get a divorce. Cigars taste great, but the smoke smell can linger inside or in the garage for weeks! Set yourself up a comfortable lawn chair, a table, and get the boom box cranking with your favorite CD. Pour your choice of Scotch over a couple cubes of ice and add a splash of spring water. This will open up the flavor a bit. Scotch is a great choice as it can compete with the richness of the cigar. Now sit down in that great lawn chair and fire that Honduran up taking care not to smoke it too fast. Depending on the size, it should last between ½ and ¾ of an hour. Lay your head back and close your eyes as you exhale... now isn't that just a touch of heaven? Your buddies will be jealous.
