How to Give Yourself a Spa Treatment at Home

Professional Results Without the Cost

You can give yourself a spa facial at home without spending a lot of money. Most of the products you'll use for this luxurious treatment are probably already in your possession and you'll get the same results as the professionals. Once you've finished, you're going to love the way your face feels.

Items and products you'll need include: face wash, face mask, exfoliating cream, toner, and moisturizer. There are no particular brands that you must buy, so just use what works best for your skin type. Before you get started, pull your hair back into a ponytail and use a handband to pull your bangs off your face.

First, you will steam your face to open up your pores. Fill up a tea kettle, or a large pot of water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat so the water is not rapidly boiling, but is still creating steam. Put a large towel over your head and make a tent over you and the steaming pot, so that most of the steam stays under the towel. Stand over the pot, but don't get too close. If the steam feels too hot, turn it down. You want warmth and moisture, not third degree burns. Spend about 15 minutes under your tent and then move on to the next step.

Apply a hot, wet wash cloth to your face to continue opening up your pores. You can run hot water over a wash cloth, wring out the wash cloth, lay it over your face and count to twenty. Remove the cloth and sit it aside.

Apply your face wash to your skin with your fingers. Use the wet wash cloth to scrub your skin in small circular motions with a light force. This exfoliates your skin and really works the wash into your pores.

An item that helps do this without all of the elbow grease can be bought through Avon. It's a battery operated device that has interchangeable spinning heads. The brush attachment scrubs away the dead skin while the sponge attachment is great for working in an exfoliating cream. The other attachment can be used for massaging the skin at the end of the treatment with a moisturizer. If you don't have this, don't worry, you don't need it, but it does make the job easier.

Next, apply a hot, wet wash cloth to your face again. Once, the cloth has cooled, gently wipe away the face wash. If you have plenty of time, you can steam your face again, but it's not necessary.

Evenly spread the face mask onto your face. Avoid your hairline, eyebrows, eyes, and lips. You can either do a t-zone mask, which covers only your forehead, nose and chin, or cover your entire face. Contrary to popular belief, you don't want your mask to completely dry into your skin. Hold your head again over the steam to keep the moisture on your face mask for about fifteen minutes. Remove gently with a hot, wet wash cloth.

Apply the exfoliating cream to your face with your fingers. Use small circular motions to rub it in. Then rinse away with a hot, wet wash cloth.

Pour facial toner onto a cotton ball and gently swipe it over your skin. It may burn a little, but keep in mind that you've just scrubbed away layers of dead skin cells and your clean fresh skin is exposed. If you don't have toner, you can use witch hazel, which can be purchased at drug stores.

For the last step, rub moisturizer onto your skin and give yourself a gently massage while doing it. Massage your temples, your cheeks, and your chin. You're going to love the way you feel once you're finished. So stand in front of the mirror and admire your beautiful new skin.
