Video game piracy is a big issue and a major problem for the video game industry, and while video game company execs are scratching their heads to come up with a solution to piracy, they may already have the answer: online gaming. Following are several reasons why giving gamers more online gaming is the perfect solution to video game piracy.

Gamers would rather have more features than a pirated game

One of the least pirated game types are games that feature online gaming and one of the major reasons for that is simply that gamers - even hardcore pirates - would rather pay retail prices to enjoy having the ability to play their favorite games online instead of torrenting and pirating the same game online for free. Online gaming can increase the playability, game enjoyment, and overall game experience ten-fold when compared to playing games that don't feature online gaming and pirates would rather pay to compete with real players instead of playing against in-game characters that rely on AI.

Playing pirated games online is too much of a hassle

Online games aren't exempt from being pirated, but playing pirated games online can lead to lots of headaches. Pirates often create rogue hosts to enjoy pirated online games, but finding rogue hosts, playing with intense lag and latency, and constantly having to switch rogue hosts makes playing online games the illegal way just too much of a hassle for the average pirate and they'd rather pay to play their favorite games online as they intended.

Online games are easier to spot and correct game piracy

Another reason why online game or games with online capabilities aren't an easy target for pirates is the fact that online gaming provides a great opportunity for game developers to monitor and combat pirated games. Game developers are able to release game updates that make piracy more difficult - or completely impossible -, they can easily ban pirating offenders, and in certain cases game developers can completely ban pirates and other offenders from playing any online games in the future.

Overall, pirates would much rather trade in their pirated games for the rich experience that online gaming provides and with the added risk and headaches that are associated with trying to play online games the illegal way, giving more games online capabilities is the perfect way to combat video game piracy.
