How to Make a Glitter Glue Christmas Stocking

Linda Riggs
Christmas seems to always go by way too fast and I am often looking for ways to make it last just a bit longer. The children have time off from school so making Christmas stockings for next year can be a great craft project to keep them busy. This particular project uses Glitter Glue and there is no need for any sewing. This is a very simple and inexpensive craft project that is perfect for children from age three up. I would just advise that very young children use safety scissors.

You will not need many items to get started on making your Christmas stockings. The first thing you will want to do is decide on what material you want to use. You can certainly recycle any material you may already have around your house. I used some dark green and bright red felt material for the stocking that you can see pictured with this article. As you can see, my homemade Christmas stocking is displayed proudly beside other store bought stockings.

It is important to use material that is thin enough to hold well with glue. Once you have your material chosen you will want to gather the few things you will need to complete your stockings. I used Glitter Glue on my stocking. I found it at my favorite craft store and you can find it by looking here. Glitter Glue comes in many colors but I found that silver stood out the best against dark fabric. Here is what you will need to make your Christmas stockings.

Items needed to make Glitter Glue Christmas stockings.
1. Glitter Glue
2. Scissors and safety scissors for children
3. socks
4. Markers
5. A large table to work on

Making the stocking
You will want to cut your material ahead of time into pieces that are easy to manage. Fold or double up a set for each stocking you want to make. Lay the material flat on a table and then lay and flatten a sock in the center of the material. Use a marker to draw an outline of the sock on to the material.

Lift the socks away and be careful as you cut out the outline you made. Keep the material doubled so that you only have to make one cut for your stocking. Children may have a hard time cutting doubled material so you may want to let them cut one piece at a time. Set aside any material that is left over after your cutting and open the material so that the inside of each side of the stocking is facing up.

Use your Glitter Glue and dot all along the edges of the inside of your stocking. Make very small drops as you go along to keep things from becoming a mess. Line the stocking sides up perfectly and press them firmly together. Let the stockings rest and have time to dry. Take some of your leftover material and cut half circles to glue on the ball and toe of your stockings.

Finishing touches for the stockings
All that is left to do now is to use your Glitter Glue to decorate the stocking any way you like. You can make designs on the stocking or use the glue to write out a name. You can also use more of your leftover material to cut shapes for a design. Be sure to let the stockings lay out flat where they can dry and not be disturbed for at least several hours.

Children will absolutely love this project. Let them use their imaginations when it comes to decorating the stockings. You might even want to let them make some to give as gifts for next Christmas. I hope you enjoyed this holiday craft project. If you liked this idea you might want to consider clicking here for more of my craft and hobby articles.
