How to Go Green and Save Money at the Same Time

Zac Linzmeier
If you are interested in 'going green' in order to help reduce your negative environmental impact then you should also be aware that you can save a considerable amount of money at the same time. So, if you want to save some money and help do your part to save the planet check out this simple little how to guide.

The first thing you can do is to simply conserve. Electricity almost solely comes from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, in the United States. Simply turn off your lights when you leave the room, shut off your computer monitor whenever possible, etc. It is even advisable to leave your kitchen appliances unplugged unless you are using them to help reduce any possible slow power drains.

Conservation extends beyond just electricity, however. Think about your fuel consumption for driving around. Now think about what you can do to burn less fuel and, in the process of doing so, not only help to reduce your carbon emissions but also save money because you are using less gas in the first place. Some great tips here include carpooling, using public transportation, walking and riding a bike for shorter trips and finally doing a little reading on hypermiling methods in order to get improved gas mileage while driving the same routes that you normally would.

Another form of conservation that can help you to go green and save money at the same time is water conservation. Although not as big of a deal in some places as others our impact on our local water tables can adversely affect our local climates and altogether the entire world. In addition to this as other prices continue to climb the prices paid for water every month are rising as well. Using less water is a great way to go green and save money at the same time. Beyond the simple methods such as not leaving the water running for extended periods of time and perhaps using store bought water for drinking installing water efficient sinks, shower head and toilets can really save you a lot of water. These devices may seem expensive for the initial installation but in the end it is an investment that pays for itself with saved water and also helps to save the environment at the same time.

If you are looking to go green and save money every month at the same time then hopefully these tips will have helped to point you in the right direction.
