"It can be classified as environmentalism; advocacy of the preservation, restoration, or improvement of the natural environment," Webster's Collegiate Dictionary Eleventh Edition.
Recently we've heard more and more about "going green" and the effects of not taking care of Earth. Most of us would like to adapt to a green lifestyle but we just don't know how. Below are a few steps to better help not only the environment but also your home.
Elect Green Candidates
If your candidate for office isn't concerned for the environment we live in then they really aren't all that concerned for future generations. Candidates willing to destroy natural resources and wildlife give off unseen details of their true personality.
Ride Your Bike More Often
Not only does this save the ozone from unwanted pollutions it also saves your pocket. Gas prices skyrocketed to an all time high only to cause long term problems. Riding a bike does wonders for your health/figure.
Feed the Birds
I know it sounds silly but feeding the birds not only relaxes stress away it also helps rid your yard of pesky insects. With trees being cut, millions a day, foraging for food becomes extremely difficult for birds. The less birds we have the higher risk of insect problems.
Recycle
We all have recycle bins or places in our neighborhood to rid of items that can't break down back into the earth. Instead of allowing plastics and metals to sit in garbage dumps recycle them for future use.
Don't Throw Away Batteries
Two billion batteries are thrown away each year. They contain hazardous materials that can leak into landfills which contaminate the dirt. Contaminated dirt leads to contaminated plant growth. If batteries are thrown into a stream or huge body of water guess what, our water becomes contaminated also. Take batteries to a local hazardous waste facility, you may receive a little cash for it.
Go To the Zoo
Become aware of the harm people are doing to animals and their living environment. Once a child sees a parent interested in conservation they too will have compassion on animals. Every day the natural life cycle's broken between earth and its habitats causing survival of the animals more and more problematic.
Change a Light Bulb
Replace standard lights with fluorescent ones. They generate more light; reduce energy, and saves money on electric bills.
Create a Compost Pile
It may sound gross but a compost pile will definitely create healthy soil and beautiful flowers. Flowers provide the oxygen we need to exist. Leftover food can be buried and reused by the Earth. It also helps maintain overflowing landfills.
Eat Organic Produce
They have fewer chemicals which is always a big plus.
Fill a Reusable Bottle with Filtered Tap Water
Imagine how many bottles of water you buy within a month, the money spent on bottled water could be invested on a filtration device. Each bottle we throw away goes into a landfill, forever. They're not biodegradable. Filtered water saves your planet and your wallet.
Just think of Disney Pixar's Wall-E, all that trash piled on and around Earth, if we're not careful that could be a possibility we leave for our generations to come. Care for your earth and the Earth will care for you. Choosing to "go green" has a lot of discipline involved but if the lives of animals, plants, trees aren't that important then think of the trash and pollution we leave behind for your future generations. Go Green!

Post a CommentYou're preaching to the choir here! I've been green since before it was cool.
It isn't just good enough to live up hill from someone that isn't green. I feel that we're just the stewards of our environment. We need to do all we can to preserve what was given to us, and correct the mistakes previously made. Good article.Thanks.
