How to Go Shampoo-Free

Making Your Hair Healthier

Kimberly Scott
For nearly a month now, I've not used shampoo or conditioner on my hair. Don't get me wrong- I clean it regularly. However, I prefer using a better, healthier alternative to shampoo and conditioner. There are two reasons why shampoo is bad for your hair.

1. Most brands of shampoo, even the high-quality ones, contain chemicals that are bad for hair. Some make the hair rough, while others have worse effects. Several common ingredients in shampoo are thought to be carcinogenic. Putting chemicals like these in your hair is just as bad as swallowing them.

2. Shampoo damages hair. Hair is covered with tiny little scales, and shampoo causes the edges of these scales to lift up, creating rough hair. Conditioner is used in order to smooth the scales back down. This cycle can't be stopped unless one stops using shampoo and conditioner.

Instead of shampoo and conditoner, use soap. Soap was used for hundreds of years before shampoo was ever invented. People started using shampoo because false advertsing told them that it would be gentler on their hair.

I would suggest using a bar of soap on your hair once or at the most twice a week. This is often enough to keep the hair clean, but not so often that the hair is stripped of all its natural oils. After rinsing out the soap, the hair can be conditioned with apple cider vinegar. Simply mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a cup of warm water, and spray the mixture on your hair. Concentrate especially on the ends. This will keep your hair soft and shiny. Just don't do it too often, especially when you first start this routine, or it could make your hair become greasy.

This routine has worked wonders for many people, including me. It's made my hair softer, smoother, thicker, and shinier, and it's done the same for others as well. I hope that this guide helps you in your quest to have healthier, better-looking hair!
