I started this whole AC thing two months ago. Technically longer but I never had the courage to submit anything till the past two months. I would write in phases. I would write one article and not write again for a while. In two months I only sent in 5 different submissions. I felt ashamed. I only got a lump sum of 30 dollars in two months. This was not ideal to me at all.
I felt that I deserved as myself more money. Enough money as a college student to work with my expenses not covered by the school or my parents. Soon came January 1st and I decided it was time to set proper goals. I created a budget and realized that at the moment I need no more than Sixty dollars a month for everything I need. I still felt that I was going to to this I wanted to do it write. That's why I started using Excel.
Many of you might you Excel as a source to do all sorts for your work or business. I have no business or job so I created an odd layout of a budget. I made an area were I can keep track of all of my own money transactions. So far it has worked out well. Sadly I would like to admit but at the moment I only have about 12 dollars to call my own. I donated my first 30 dollars for reference.
I decided I needed a goal of how much I wanted every week at least. I decided 50 dollars was good enough for me. Even though my average earning per article is 6 or 7 dollars I decided to treat 5 as mine because of the uncertainty of how much I would receive for any one article. To reach that goal I would have to write at least 10 articles a week. I did not feel that was a bad thing because that's similar to writing one per weekday and 4 during the weekend. So with that I had my goal.
The next part was probably the hardest. I had to figure out when I would write. I have never been able to stick to routines. I have had the hardest time doing it all and still have time to relax and sleep. I decided it was time to create a mock schedule and adjust it seeing how things would go. Your schedule is up to you but remember you want time at the end of the day to relax. Another tip is to do one article before doing anything else including checking your email. This is important because you will feel much more satisfied while checking your email.
I decided it would help by timing my activities. This gave me a better view of how much time I am actually spending on activities like checking my email and writing a certain article. I found the easiest tool to use was a simple web application called SlimTimer. I found it wonderful and worked with my sidebar. It was small and did not take up much room at all. It even gave me reports of what I did all day. This was the best thing I found so far.
After realizing I spent less time writing articles than I thought about one in 15 minutes I got a whole new prospective. I only needed to spend 15 minutes of my day to do this. This gave a a real life view on things. The ideal mind might believe that they can write 6 or 7 articles in a day. At one point I did. I realized that like most people (sorry for the people who do not fall under this) ideas don't flow as fast as they do. I can only come up with a certain amount of ideas in one day. I still do not think I can now.
My whole experience with AC has grown from this because I was able to reach goals that I set and I knew I could easily reach. I did not plan on making a living off of AC but in the near future I might. This will help you all who just need a few dollars to round up with phone bill.

Post a CommentGoal setting is a great idea. I am new to AC. My intitial goal is to submit seven articles per week but I will reevaluate in a month. Your idea to write an article before checking email is a great one!! i also want ot budget some time to try to promote my content. I stay at home with two small children and finding time where i can actually string two thoughts together is tough. Your ideas to do a spreadsheet and really break it down will help me so thank you!
Goal setting does seem to work.
