How God Put My Heart Back Together

Today I was praying about my heart, how it is not right in some ways and I was trying to explain to God that I needed grace to fix. He gave me a picture which is , I guess, a plan or goal for me.

Our heart is like a patchwork quilt. When we are in charge of putting the pieces together, the resultant quilt is a disaster. The big central medallion will be pride, and it is ugly. The other blocks are scattered all over in no order and some are not even on the quilt. Things like competition, anger and bitterness are in places of predominance. Overall, the quilt is ugly. It looks like a blind man put it together, which, in fact, is the case. Without God helping us work on our heart, we are blind. Imagine a heart surgeon trying to repair his own heart!

When God puts our heart together, the result is just what he wants. The central medallion is Love. It is the biggest block, covering almost the whole quilt. Arranged all around that are our other characteristics. Each with just the right size and color to harmonize with all the rest. All around the edge is the Holy Spirit as a border. The Spirit holds it all together and keeps the pieces in place as God arranged them. Now, things like anger and competition are righteous and do not control and damage the heart. They are working toward some plan God has for us today.

Everyone's heart quilt is different but Godly hearts will always be a variation on this theme. Love in the middle, other characteristics properly positioned around that and The Holy Spirit holding the whole thing together. The life of a believer is a thread. God uses these threads to weave the fabric of Jesus over the whole earth and over all time. Each believer brings a different hue and texture to the fabric. This is the reason God's people are not boring and are hard to describe. It also makes his whole plan interesting. Each thread, however, has a fiber woven into it that shines and gives it a light, or shimmer, that fiber is Jesus.
