How Going Green Will Help Your Budget

Are you thinking of going green? We all need to do our share in protecting the earth and it's vast array of resources. Many tend to assume that going green is costly, but it doesn't have to be. Going out and buying an environmentally friendly car tomorrow for example, is not very realistic. But, did you know that there are small things that we can do to help the environment while saving ourselves money at the same time?

Stop using paper towels! There are reusable cleaning cloths on the market that are made of mostly recycled materials, these are relatively cheap as well. Expect to pay three to four dollars depending on where you live. You simply wash and use again. It sounds like a pain but they are super absorbent, environmentally friendly, and it won't kill your budget. Just think of the money that you will actually save when you stop buying paper towels. A major plus, they can be used on almost any surface! When they begin to get worn, simply recycle them.

Conserving energy is a no brainer. There are many, many, things you can do here. Turn the water off when it's not in use, like when brushing your teeth. Unplug things when you are done with them. These are the simple things like your cell phone charger, curling iron, toaster, coffee pot per say that we only use once a day, if that often. This is budget friendly because we don't pay for what we don't use. It may not make a giant impact on your energy costs, but it will result in some savings.

Save on transportation costs by taking the bus, car pooling, walking, or biking to work or school. If you allocate the amount of your monthly budget that is put into gas and compare it with the rates for taking the bus, you will be surprised to see how much money you are wasting. If there is less traffic, then there will be less of the harmful emissions. If you can walk or bike, it costs nothing and comes with the added benefit of exercise.

Recycle. We have heard this time and time again but a lot of us fail to do this. Yes, you can benefit financially from recycling. Some states will offer cash per bottle or can turned in at the recycling center. There are also some stores that although they will not directly give you cash but apply the money to a discount card. Therefore, what you recycle will come off of your weekly grocery bill. Even if you reside in an area that this is not available, there are centers that will purchase aluminum cans, scrap metals, ect., and they will pay you for your waste.

We have to ensure a healthy environment for future generations. Going green can be budget friendly. Although you may not save a bundle, any little bit counts. There are no more excuses for us to not be socially responsible. So, get green and stay green!
