How to Get a Golden Smoky Eye

Gilded eyelids are the stars of the spring season. Recently, stars like Halle Berry and Kate Walsh donned their golden peepers at star-studded events like the Oscars. You don't have to be a starlet to wear the latest eye fashion. Learn how to get a golden smoky eye look yourself. This look isn't too heavy for daytime wear and is bound to become your new eye makeup favorite.

These steps will show you how to get this look from beginning to end. This application is super easy but having the right tools makes it even simpler. Invest in a good eye makeup brush kit. You're worth it!

First, prime the eyes with eye primer. Apply the primer to the entire lid from brow bone to lash line. An eye primer application keeps the color in place and makes the color appear more vivid.

Next, apply foundation to the eyelids. Use a fresh sponge to apply a light coat. Take note that before you apply the color, the primer should be dry, not sticky. Choose a foundation that best matches your natural skin tone. If possible use a crème to powder makeup or a matte mouse.

The next step is simple. Dab a medium tipped brush in a medium gold eyeshadow. Apply the shadow to both the entire bottom lids. Don't sweep the gold out too far from the ends of the eye. It could end up looking messy if you get a little sloppy with the eyeshadow. Women with lovely darker skin tones may use a darker gold shade. The color should still have shimmer and flatter the skin tones.

Follow up this step by applying gold to the under eye. Use a small tapered brush or the tip of a sponge applicator to get the color under the lashes. Your smoky gold eyeshadow should be applied to the inner eyes to make this look "pop!"

Use a gel eyeliner in black, copper or brown and line the top and bottom lashes. The eye should be defined with the liner color but not overpowering the gold of your eyelids.

Apply mascara liberally to the top and bottom lashes. Deep brown and very black mascara are excellent choices.

During your golden smoky eye makeup application, you may have strewn a little shadow around your eyes. Clean up loose powder by sweeping it away softly with tissue. Then using a highlighting powder, tap a little light powder in to brighten and even your skin.
