How to Make a Golf-Themed Wedding Cake Topper

The golf-themed wedding cake topper is a fun and whimsical way the golf enthusiast can incorporate the love of the sport into their wedding day. The sports theme can be changed to any sport that the couple enjoys by changing the accessories used to make the wedding cake topper.

Golf-Themed Wedding Cake Topper

Thin 4 1/2 inch to 5 inch wooden circle
Green felt
Small bride and groom figurine
Black marker
Mini pearl beads
Mini golf clubs
White paint
Toothpick
Scissors
Paint brush
Glue gun and glue sticks
1/2 yard of pearls on a string

Directions:

1. Cover your work area with a large plastic bag. Paint the top and sides of the wooden circle white. Let dry. Turn over and paint the bottom of the circle white. Let dry.

2. Trace and cut two circles from the green felt using the wooden circle as the template.

3. Glue a green felt circle to the bottom and top of the wooden circle. If the felt overlaps, trim excess from the edges.

4. Glue the bride and groom figurine to the back of the wooden circle. If you are making this a whimsical cake topper, you can position the figurines in funny positions, like the bride carrying the groom. The versatility of positions depends on the type of figurines you purchased for the cake topper.

5. Directly across from the bride and groom figurines, at the front of the topper, color a small black circle with the black marker.

6. Cut a small lengthwise triangular piece from the green felt. Glue this piece to the top of the toothpick. Stick this mini flag to the top, edge of the black circle. Place some glue to the bottom of the flag to hold it into place.

7. Glue a mini pearl bead, the golf ball, at the edge of the black hole so that it looks like it is going to go in, or glue it totally out of range of the whole for a whimsical touch. Glue a few pearls sporadically around the bride and groom couple.

8. Glue the mini golf clubs to the bride or groom's hand. For added whimsy, you could glue a club to the brides hand in a direction that makes it look like she is going to hit the groom with the club.

9. Glue the string of pearls around the top edge of the circle. Cut off excess.

If you are making this wedding cake topper in another sports theme, for example football, replace the golf clubs with a football. Make a post at the end of the field made from Popsicle sticks in place of the golf hole with flag. Add white goal lines across the green felt.
