How Good Are The Boston Celtics?

Not since a guy named Bird graced the Garden, has the city of Boston been so excited. On the heels of a trade that has put three superstars in Boston, the Celtics have begun the season by winning 12 out of their first 14 fourteen games. Not only have they been winning they have been blowing teams out. Just how good are the Celtics. Here is a deeper look at the new look Celtics.

The Celtics already had one all-star caliber player in Paul Pierce. Pierce is a guy who can knock down the outside shot, take a player off the dribble and create his own shot. The problem in Boston is that he was trying to do it all by himself. Now Pierce has help. Add all-star Ray Allen from the Seattle Supersonics. Allen is a guy who can flat out 'shoot the rock.' He has a great outside shot and is considered 'money' if left open. Allen still is relatively quick and can be tough to stop if he gets going.

Even bigger than adding Ray Allen, was the addition of another player. NBA all-star Kevin Garnett was happy to come to Boston. Garnett is a great player who has played on a bad team his whole career. At best he has managed to get into the playoffs with the Timberwolves. Now together with Allen and Pierce he is part of a three-headed monster that could be good enough to win a championship. Garnett is one of those guy's whose motor is always going. He constantly fighting for rebounds and hustling on the court. He is able to score in the post and knock down the mid range jump shot. His addition to the Celtics, makes them a contender in the Eastern Conference.

As great as the new additions are for the Celtics there are some question marks on this team. First of all they have a very young and inexperienced point guard in Rajon Rondo. Playing in only his second season, Rondo is starting do to a lack of depth at point guard. The 5-8 Rondo came out of college after only 2 seasons probably prematurely. All though he has worked hard on his game, his shooting and late game play are still suspect.

The Celtics are also without a lot of depth. With the exception of James Posey and Scott Pollard, they have a very young group of players coming off the bench. Will these veteran players like Garnett and Allen, be able to take this team to greatness? Will their older legs hold up throughout the entire 82 game season? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure they look pretty good right now. It looks like great times have returned to Boston and its basketball team.
