How to Get a Good Deal on Insurance for Antique and Collector Cars

Maggie OLeary
Antique and collector's cars are beautiful, and some consider them a work of art. They are definitely a part of our collective history and worthy of treasuring and taking good care of. If you own one of these rare gems, you must have a good insurance policy on your vehicle, whether you plan to drive it or keep it as a garage queen and only bring it out for shows and special events. There are several ways to get cheap deals on quality automobile insurance coverage for your antique or collector's car, you just have to know where to look.

Trusted Local Agent

The easiest way is probably to contact your trusted local insurance agent that you already have established a working relationship with. Your agent will be able to tailor a policy for your antique or collector's car that will give you great coverage in the event of an accident, and fit your budget as well. If you don't have a trusted local agent, you can still obtain a fair and reasonable insurance quote in other ways.

Other Agent or Bank/Credit Union
If you don't already have an agent, consider calling a local agent in your area and requesting a quote for your collector's or antique vehicle. You may also be able to do this by visiting their website, if you know who you would like to work with. If you don't have an agent, try your bank or credit union, as these institutions sometimes offer insurance policies of all types, including auto insurance. You may also be eligible for discounts on your automobile insurance policy just by having an established business relationship and accounts in good standing with the institution.

Online
If neither of those options are feasible, use an internet search engine to locate the websites for several major auto insurers and request quotes from them. There are also services that allow you to input your information, and the site will generate quotes from several insurers at one time. This task can be done at any time of the day from the comfort of your own home, and it takes very little effort. In addition, some insurers will let you purchase your policy and print the relevant documents on your home computer. This eliminates the need to visit an agent or insurance company in person and disrupt your schedule.

If you have a classic collector's car or antique auto, one of the most important things you can do for your vehicle is to provide proper insurance coverage. You can do this without busting your budget, if you take your time and comparison shop.

How strange. We were just talking about this just this morning. Ryan has a fully restored classic Mustang, and he had to get classic collector's insurance, to insure it for it's value and not it's 'Blue Book". It was a difference of almost 15K in the worth of the car. Lynn (my best friend) has a friend who has a classic restored car, and she asked him just last night if he had classic/collector's insurance on it, and he had never heard of it before. I should send him a link to this!
