How Good is Matt Ryan?

David Kenny
In the 2009 NFL season Matt Ryan will break-out and become one of the top quarterbacks in the NFC. Matt Ryan had a great rookie season in 2008.

Atlanta has a team that is built on running the ball and playing great defense. This make it easier for Matt Ryan to be a great quarterback because the Falcons are not going to ask him to throw the ball 35 or 40 times a game. He just has to concentrate on making the right read and pass on 3rd downs. Most of the time Matt Ryan will be in a 3rd and 4 because of the strong running game that the Atlanta Falcons have. This will also make the defense more susceptible to play action pass. Matt Ryan will have receivers open because of how the defense will be out of position.

In the first two weeks of the 2009 NFL season, Matt Ryan is 4th in the NFL with a 108.5 quarterback rating. Matt Ryan is very accurate with his passes. In the first two week in the 2009 NFL season, Ryan has a 5 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio and has completed 68.3 percent of his passes. He passes well to his receivers and great to his all-pro tight-end Tony Gonzales. Many teams are having trouble covering Atlanta's receivers because of the great running by their runningback Micheal Turner. Micheal is able to keep the defense back on their hills. With his hard running up the middle it brings up the safeties to help make it easier to throw the slants and the steams. Ryan has uncovered a new goto receiver in Tony Gonzalez. Tony Gonzalez has caught two of the five touchdown passes Matt Ryan has thrown in the first two weeks of the 2009 NFL season. Matt Ryan's goto receiver in the 2008 season Roddy White has one touchdown early in the 2009 season.

This season Matt Ryan will pass more and more to his runningbacks as the season go on. The speed of Jerious Norwood is already starting to become a problem for opposing teams defensive linebackers to cover in the flats. Norwood has 5 catches for 49 yards in the first two games of the season. When Micheal Turner and Jerious Norwood are in the back field at the same time, the defense will have a problem trying to cover both of them coming out of the back field. Then Matt Ryan will read the defense and lead his receivers to the open spot on the field. Matt Ryan will make the NFC pro-bowl for his fantastic play in the 2009 NFL season.
