I know you are either sitting there thinking, "Finally! I've been wanting to do this forever" or "It looks too complicated I'll never figure it out anyways". Well I want to take care of both of those right now. I am going to give you some easy instructions so that when you are finished you will say, "Are you kidding me, that was easy". After that you will feel like a pro and will be able to start your own little empire.
#1 If you don't know where to go the website is simply www.google.com/adsense where you will see a big SIGN UP NOW button on top right part of the page, just simply click it.
#2 Your website URL is the first thing it will ask you for meaning what is the main website you are going to place ads on. If you don't have a website here are a few websites off-hand that give you the opportunity to place ads: BizPreneur, Lazzeo, Dollarspace, Salespider, Dada and thats just for starters. After that it will just ask the website language and just pick your primary language.
#3 Select a Individual or Business account. then fill in your particulars; full name, address, city, state, zip code, country, telephone number, email preference. Then read over the Program Policies and Submit your information.
That's it your done! They suggest that it could take up to two days for your account to be approved after you sign-up, but I help people join and learn to use Google Adsense and it usually only takes a couple hours if not less. Wants that is finished you are ready to get started.
#1 Login to your Google Adsense account on the right hand side with your email address and password.
Don't worry, you will see all kinds of different avenues and opportunities that you will have at your disposal, but lets stick with the basics here.
#2 At the top of the page you will see Reports, Adsense Setup, My Account shaded in a bluish color (sorry I'm color blind). Click Adsense Setup.
#3 Once on the Adsense Setup page you have 3 options to choose from Adsense for Content, Adsense for Search, Referrals. Click Adsense for Content.
#4 This will take you to 2 choices either Ad Unit or Link Unit. Underneath each option is a explanation of what exactly each offer is, but for now they have already chosen Ad Unit for you with a drop down menu to the right of it that reads "Text and Image Ads (default)". Just leave it as is and click Continue.
#5 Now you are Choosing Formats and Colors this is where it gets confusing for many and they say the heck with it. However, that is usually because they aren't aware of the different formats and how they work. Under Format you have a drop down menu of different sizes of ads on the right hand side which right now it should read 728x90 Leaderboard. This is used if you are placing an ad at the top or bottom of your website or profile if it allows. The 728 means that the width is 728 pixels (don't worry about pixels just telling you for future reference) and the 90 is the height of your ad. With this being said you can choose whatever size you need to fit your website or profile. Just remember if you don't know the left number means width and the right number means height.
Now that you have figured out the size you need its time to choose the colors for your ads. Remember we are keeping this basic so don't go clicking around everything, lol, well if you must. Anyways, you should see to the right 5 words; Border, Title, Background, Text, URL with these various color boxes, numbers and letters to the right of them. If you want to change the color simply click on it and pick the color you desire. This will automatically change the #FFFF00 looking thing (color code) in the box. Once you have somewhat made a ad the way you like it then scroll down and click Continue.
#6 Choosing Channels is something else that if you made it this far, it might tend to lose you all together. Quite frankly its just a lack of knowledge as the whole idea for Channels is if you have a lot of different sites that you place Google Adsense on and you can keep track of which sites are getting the hits and how often, so maybe later on when you are more familiar you can change it around a bit to make that site's adsense better. However, it is not necessary to use a channel but it is helpful.
If you do want to use a channel simply look right above the Back/Continue buttons and you will see Add Channels Click Add Channels. Depending on your security settings on your computer you may have a message come up at the top of the page asking you if you want to allow scripts, just except it and it will disappear. Then click Add Channels again and a box will pop up asking you for the name. Just name it the name of the website you are placing it on then press OK. It will disappear and you will see it under Your Selected Channels. If you see this you are doing great and your almost home!!! After that click Continue.
So, what do you see? Yes, thats right you see this ugly looking numbers and letters all jumbled up together and guess what, if you see that you did everything right because that is your Adsense Code. All you do now is click on it and the whole thing will be highlighted blue. Right click your mouse, select Copy and take it to your website to start making some money.
