A popular dish in my home that I created includes fresh pasta tossed with chunks of acorn squash, feta cheese, sauteed onions and fresh sage leaves. One day when I prepared the ingredients I realized I ran out of pasta but had fresh pizza dough in the fridge. I decided to create a unique gourmet pizza using the pasta dish ingredients and it turned out to be a huge hit in my home that is now a weekly staple.
After pressing the dough out into the well oiled pan, spread a heavy layer of pureed acorn squash all over the dough. On top of this, layer finely sliced onions, crumbled feta cheese and fresh sage leaves. A sprinkle of olive oil on top finishes off the gourmet pizza and adds the necessary fat to complete the recipe.
The next time I made the gourmet pizza I used fig flavored goat cheese instead of the feta and also added some chopped black walnuts to the top which helped to add more depth to the gourmet pizza.
Another popular flavor combination that works well for a gourmet pizza includes Thai peanut sauce. By blending peanut butter, water, teriyaki sauce, ginger, and garlic you can easily concoct your own homemade peanut sauce. This is most often mixed with noodles but can work create as a base for your gourmet pizza.
On top of the Thai peanut sauce you can add just about anything from onions and mushrooms to bean sprouts and sliced carrots. Once the toppings have been added a plain cheese will work well such as a monterey or mild swiss. Fried browned garlic makes a great topping once the gourmet pizza is ready.
Spinach artichoke dip is another favorite dish that can be turned into a gourmet pizza. Creamed spinach makes a great sauce on a whole wheat crust with chunks of artichoke placed right on top. A rich cheese such as marscapone or ricotta will add the creaminess to the gourmet pizza that truly makes it similar to the classic dip.
Once you get the hang of it, you will find that gourmet pizza can be made from any flavor combination you can think of. Using unique ingredients that are typically not related to pizza is the perfect way to make a gourmet pizza that is truly unique and all your own.Gourmet pizza is easy to make using your favorite ingredients.Combine your family's favorite flavors and turn them into a gourmet pizza. The word pizza dates back to the early Romans and translated to mean "pie".http://www.ehow.com/how_4858427_easy-gourmet-pizza.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza

Great ideas!! Though acorn squash is not one of my favorite foods! But everything else sounded pretty good. If you want to save time and have a Trader Joe's near you they have the most incredible fresh pizza dough in either whole wheat or white flour.
