How to Make Government Accountable

Artiste
Trace Government Spending: one of the best ways to make government accountable, is to make sure the public knows where their money is going and what it is doing for them. People tend to forget that the government works for them. And any employer will want to know where their employees are spending the company's money. The government should have a website where they regularly update what they are spending tax payer's money. This way the people can call the government out on the shady little things that they try to pull off. We should keep the purse strings tight, and like any other boss, as to see the receipts.

Annual Report on Public Official's Spending: Public officials are part of the government. And since they work for the people, the people have the right to know what they are buying and who they are buying from. Most public officials go under the radar and don't pay their taxes. They get gifts that they don't claim when and if they do their taxes. And they use the people's money for personal use ala Sarah Palin. So we should know every little thing they purchase. It may seem like an invasion of privacy, but the minute you decide to work for the people, you decide to let them into your life. You are not allowed to complain about being carefully watched, and you should not use the people's money for your personal gains.

Full Exposure of Who's Connected to Whom:
Shady dealings are not new to politics. People in public life have been making back door deals since the conception of government. So it's in our rights to know who our officials are connected to. Major companies run background checks on their employees, and we should do the same for our officials. Full disclosure is needed so that we are not surprised later when we find out that our leaders have been selling contracts to their connections.

Citizen's Committee to Watch Over Agencies and Rate Them:
When Zagat rates restaurants, people pay attention. So we should have a citizen's committee that would audit each security agency in the government as well as other agencies and rate their performance. Though most agencies have levels of clearance, It is important that we know how effective these agencies are. Any agency that does not perform above par -like FEMA -should be rated and disbanded or replaced by a more capable agency.
