How to Be a Great Best Man

Things You Should Know About Being a Best Man

Laura Fleenor
Being asked to be a best man at your friend or family's wedding should be an honor. If you have never been the best man at a wedding before, there are some things you may need to know.

Bachelor Party:

As the best man, you should plan the bachelor party for the groom and groomsmen. When planning a bachelor party, keep the grooms best interest in mind. Many men pay for strippers to perform at their friends bachelor party. I do not advise this. Hiring a stripper for a bachelor party can devastate the bride and the groom may not want you to upset her. It is always a good idea to talk to the bride about it before you hire a stripper.

Preparing For The Wedding:

As the best man, in many cases, you will need to rent and get fitted for a tuxedo. You may need to get fitted for the tux several times to get it right, so do not skip out on the fittings. The best man needs to attend the wedding rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. The best man should check with the maid of honor to see if there is anything he can do to help with the reception venue.

The Wedding Day:

The best man should wake up fairly early to be at the groom's side. Help the groom out in any way that you can, and make SURE he gets to the church on time, or even early. If there is no ring bearer, you may be asked to hold the rings, and hand them to the groom when the time comes. The best man will walk down the aisle with the maid of honor, and greet guests at the receiving line. The best man will need to sign the marriage license as the groom's witness.

At the reception the best man will sit with the rest of the wedding party at a specified table, and give a toast to the newly married couple. The best man should have at least one dance with the maid of honor. The best man should arrange the decorating of the getaway vehicle.

After the bride and groom have departed the best man should help the maid of honor deliver the married couple's gifts to their home, and help clean up the reception venue. The best man should remember to return the tuxedo to the rental shop in a timely manner.

being asked to be best man is an honour. But with that honour comes the responsability of delivering a great best man speech. Most people despise the notion of having to do some public speaking, however, with a little thoought and a little help, you can deliver a speech that is remembered and well received by the entire wedding party. speeches at www.classicspeeches.com might be the best place you can start

Pretty good, basic advice. I also got the Best Man Bible (http://www.thebestmanbible.com), which went into a LOT more detail and had some great ideas.
