How to Have a Great Wedding on a Budget

Brooke Coin
Most brides (and grooms) want the best wedding possible. However, more and more these days budget considerations get in the way. But you can have the wonderful day you desire without breaking the bank. Here a just a few ideas for the bride on a budget;

1.
Choose a Smaller Wedding Venue - No matter where you live, there are probably a few well known wedding venues that many local brides know about. But why not investigate a little further and find something less expensive but equally suitable? In many cases local restaurants will be happy to host a small wedding party, it is just not something they advertise a great deal. Local community halls and firehouses are also often available for hire, at a great savings over more "traditional" wedding venues.

2.
Make your Own Wedding Invitations - With the advent of home computer softwares like PhotoShop and a large number of free image and desktop publishing programs it is not at all difficult for couples to make their own beautiful wedding invitations at home. Most craft stores carry a large selection of lovely cardstock that makes wonderful invitations, and by creating your own, your wedding invitations will be especially personal and memorable.

3.
Consider Purchasing Gently Used Wedding Attire - Of course, for every bride her wedding gown is one of the most important elements she has to consider when planning her big day. There are a growing number of consignment stores that carry even big name designer wedding gowns, at a fraction of their original cost. Ebay is also a great place to look, as many dressmakers use the site to sell their work, and will custom make your dress to your own measurements, just like a regular bridal store. To save your bridesmaids a little cash they could look in the same places too.

4.
Keep Your Guest List in Line - Give your proposed guest list a good long second look, both bride and groom. When was the last time you saw Edna from the old office? And does anybody even remember what second cousin Fred even looks like? If you are marrying on a budget, stick to close family and friends only. Not only will you save a good deal of money, but you can avoid the embarrassment of not being able to put names to unfamiliar faces that were only invited because your parents said you should.
