How to Have a Great Yard Sale

Bret Desgrosellier
I recently had yard sale and made close to $500! How did I do it you may ask yourself? Yeah I had quite a bit of stuff, but no more than what is at an actual yard sale. So here are a few things I did to make it run successful.

#1 Advertise: If you are wanting to have a lot of people to come to your yard sale, make sure that you advertise. That is a huge one, if no one knows that you are having one, how could they come to yours? They're several ways to put the word out, your best chance to get more people is to put your ad in the newspaper. Make sure you state what items would make people come, such as furniture, games, toys, for sale. Give people a reason to come.

Also, you are able to post your garage sale/yard sale on Craigslist as well, which many people look at every day. Just make sure to post items that would attract people to come, cause there is no point in people seeing your post if they have no interest in what you selling. One more thing you can do is put out signs, and arrows to where your yard sale is. People go out driving on the weekend and might want to check out your sale if they know where it is.

#2 Have A Nice Display: One thing I hate about going to yard sales is digging through a bunch of stuff that is thrown into bins, or in big piles on a table. It doesn't take much time to set up a few extra tables, and sort out your items so that people don't feel like they are rummaging through items. When people see things put out nicely, they will be associated with a higher value of item, and the desire to buy would increase.

#3 Price Your Items: I hate having to go out to a yard sale, and not see anything that has a price tag on it. Yes I know its a bargaining thing most the time, but most the time people don't like to be direct and talk to someone, and have to make a move. I know it sounds silly, but if you have prices on your items, more people will come up and make offers, instead of not buying, or make no offers at all.

#4 Be Friendly: When someone comes to your yard sale, they expect someone to be nice and help them if they are looking for something in particular. No one enjoys someone who is selling stuff, who just sits down, and doesn't make eye contact, or help anyone out. The friendlier you are to someone, the more apt. they will be to buy.
