How to Have the Greatest Adventure in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park

Mike Beede
The Grand Canyon is one of the premier vacation spots in the U.S. The Canyon sees up to 4 million visitors each year, and all of them leave the Grand Canyon with a sense of awe and deep, spiritual appreciation of what our country is an all it has to offer.

The Canyon is within easy reach of Las Vegas travelers. You can fly into Las Vegas and be at the West Rim entrance and Skywalk in just a few hours of driving time. Or you can travel to the South Rim entrance, where the Grand Canyon Village lies, with its wealth of services, from lodging to restaurants, shops and general store, post office and bank. Everything you need to enjoy the Grand Canyon can be found in the Village area.

Hiking the trails of the Grand Canyon, rafting the beautiful Colorado River, camping under the stars of this great western state-all this is available to you at the Grand Canyon National Park. Tour the Canyon by air, by boat, on horseback or by mule. Photograph it from every angle. Relax in its wooded areas, and enjoy its museums, galleries, and bookstore. You will take away memories and souvenirs that will help you remember your Grand Canyon visit for a lifetime.

But why stop there? Yosemite National Park is just a 6-7 hours drive. Or fly into one of the airports near the Yosemite National Park. Amtrak also travels to Yosemite National Park. There you will see the famous Giant Sequoia trees, a number of waterfalls, rock formations, lakes and rivers, meadows and wetlands, and a number of museums, historic buildings, and cemeteries. Tours are available at the Park and there are some self-guiding trails. You can enjoy horseback riding and rock-climbing, bird-watching and water sports. Cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and snowboarding are also available during the winter months. Some areas of the Park may be closed during severe weather.

These National Parks are gifts that we have been given by those people in the past who had the foresight to keep them in their natural state. Now it is our turn to enjoy them, protect them, and pass them on to those who follow us. Could there be any better vacation than seeing two or three of these great wonders in a couple of weeks?
