So it only seems naturally that the festivities get started off in style - with Greek influences at the shower, as well. Here are some of the things we are going to do.
White Candy-Coated Jordan Almonds
In the Greek culture these are known as Greeks we know them as koufetta and they are the only favor that is actually "required" as our culture dictates. So they're a must. Most people put some in a mesh bag and tie it off with a ribbon. They need to be placed in the bag and on the tray in odd numbers in order to do it properly.
Greek-Themed Decorations
We will likely decorate the hall with Greek themed decorations. Yes, we opted to have it at a hall because the guest list is rather large (in true Greek fashion) so no one has a house big enough. Some ideas for decorations include light blue and white balloons (Greek flag), pictures that were taken in Greece with nice scenery, white flowers, and Greek statues and vases.
Consider a Greek-Themed Centerpiece
There are many creative things that you can do for centerpieces that hold to the Greek theme. You can decorate each table with a small Greek vase filled with flowers or small Greek statues. Another idea is to put potted plants of Greek herbs on the tables, such as thyme and Greek oregano. You can also decorate the table with Greek pastries, Greek cookbooks, and other Greek-themed items.
What About Entertainment?
At my bridal shower, we pushed the tables back after we ate and I opened presents and started Greek dancing. My mother brought a little radio and we were able to teach my bridal party how to do the traditional dance.
Greeks always dance spontaneously and some of your guests may expect it. Why not bring your radio just in case some people want to burn off some of the meal? Dancing is fun, and people will appreciate getting in touch with the culture.
Consider Having a Greek Menu
I don't think we're going to worry about having Greek food per se. We're at the whim of whichever function hall we choose in terms of menu. However, I am throwing this out there as an option for you. If you want to really go all out, why not serve some of the festive Greek foods out there? Anything Greek will work, even if you just serve a Greek dessert or two.
If you want to have a Greek themed bridal shower, these ideas will help you plan the best one possible.
