Why Green Juice is Healthy
For those looking at the science of green juice, the reason why plants are green is because they have a substance called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a green pigment that allows plants to absorb sunlight, which in turn the plant uses as energy to grown, and build new cells.
When we consume green plants, we take in that chlorophyll as well. Chlorophyll will act as an antioxidant in our system and help to breakdown polluting chemicals in our bodies. The green chlorophyll also acts as an anti-inflammatory in our system and oxygenates our blood. Drinking green juice also gives our bodies more than just chlorophyll to keep us healthy. Many green plants that have been juiced give us essential amino acids, vitamins A, C, and K as well as iron, potassium, folate, and many more nutrients.
Green Juicing at Home
There are a few ways to get the benefits of green juice into your body. Many people drink green by juicing their own unprocessed and organic plants from their home. The best home juicing ingredients for green drinks are wheat-grass, spirulina, chlorella, barley grass, alfalfa sprouts, cabbage, kale and spinach. If you do choose to juice at home, experiment with several different greens to get that taste your looking for. Some home juicers add beets, cucumbers, raw carrots, or celery to their blending. If you want to sweeten up your green juice, try adding a banana, apple, or some honey.
Other Green Juice Products
Though the preferred process is to juice your own green plants, some of us need an alternative. Many health food stores now offer commercial green food products in tablet, capsule, and powder forms. The powders can be mixed with water or juice to give you those quick green juice benefits.
